Gabbee Stolp

Gabbee’s practice incorporates an array of materials from precious metals and ceramic to found objects and products of taxidermy. Objects from deceased animals such as bones, teeth, feathers and fur are integral to her work. The intention is not to be perverse. The use of these parts is like a resurrection of the creature that once was. The highest respect and appreciation is expressed through this transformation process. Her practice asks human beings to consider their own mortality and their own existential perceptions concerning the fragility of life.

Collaborative Project

Students from Claremont College joined students from the Diploma of Photo-imaging program recently in preparing and photographing an installation.
The installation comprised a photographic backdrop made by students and consisting of multi-layered images of a human skull drawn by one of the Claremont students. They also fashioned the skull images into a garment to be worn in front of the backdrop.
The result was compelling. Students from each group photographed other students wearing the garment and these images can be seen below.
